Empact Group has taken a step forward in celebrating Women's Day by turning attention to health and wellbeing in an event that challenges convention on Friday, 8 August.
This Women's Day, women across the organisation gather for a day designed to inspire, empower and support them in every aspect of their lives — with the highlight being a yoga session led by Alan Quinn, CEO of Empact Group.
The theme, Women First, Health Always, aims to reflect the company's belief that wellbeing is the foundation for women to flourish in their careers and personal lives. The programme is built around Empact's 'H-E-A-L-T-H' principles: Happy, Empowered, Active, Lively, Tenacious and Hopeful — values that aim for every woman in its workforce to embody, says the organisation.
In Gauteng, the day opens with a calming yoga practice guided by Alan Quinn, who is known for leading weekly sessions at Empact's Johannesburg head office. "Wellness is not a side activity — it is an essential part of life and leadership," says Quinn. "It was a privilege to share this moment with the women of Empact. Yoga is about strength, balance and mindfulness, qualities I see in our team every day."
Similar programmes, tailored to local teams, are also held at the Cape Town and KwaZulu-Natal offices to ensure women across Empact experienced the same focus on health and empowerment, adds the organisation.
Following the yoga and meditation session, employees hear from a line-up of speakers who tackle different aspects of women's health and empowerment:
- Sarika Sujan, IPC Specialist at Empact Group — shares practical insights on physical and mental wellbeing across life stages, helping women recognise the signs that their health needs attention.
- Timiya Miyen from Momentum — addresses financial wellbeing, offering practical guidance on building financial security and reducing the pressures that come with poor financial management.
- Sinehlanhlana Cele, Food by Empact Group's Dietitian — gives targeted nutrition advice tailored to each decade of a woman’s life, from their early adulthood to their senior years.
- Charles Muller, Facilities Management by Empact Group Manager — closes the programme with a self-defence segment, encouraging vigilance and self-preservation as the first line of safety.
Sanele Mlambo, Group Marketing & Communications Executive at Empact Group, explains the thinking behind this year's focus. "We wanted our Women's Day to reflect the full spectrum of what it means to be well — physically, mentally and financially. Over 74% of our employees are women and 66% of our managerial roles are held by women. This was about recognising that strength and supporting it with care."
Empact Group's commitment to gender equality and transformation aims to go beyond the annual celebration. The company will continue to accelerate progress in increasing female representation in leadership roles, while building a workplace culture where wellbeing is actively encouraged, says the organisation.
Quinn concludes, "Empact is about people. When we invest in the health of our people, we invest in the health of our organisation. Women's Day 2025 reminded us that wellness is not a luxury — it's a responsibility we all share."
